Churchill

Polar bear Capital of the world.

High up in the subarctic zone in Manitoba, Canada; Churchill is famous for its relationship with Polar bears. This port town on Hudson Bay is remote and cut off, over 270 km from the next settlement, making it a true outpost in the wilderness. The area is of course famous for being the self-branded ‘Polar bear capital of the world’, with the coast playing host to large number of bears, waiting for the big freeze and their opportunity to get back out onto the ice.

Whilst in Churchill I worked alongside the team from Churchill Wild.

The company are leaders in Polar bear safaris, having pioneered guided walking safaris with the bears for over 30 years, based out of their incredible eco-lodges. I joined the guides on foot to venture out onto Hudson Bay in search of Polar bears.
